Conceived on the tables of the international design, it comes to life in the Venetian Lagoon where it is blown and wisely shaped by the able hands of the most skilled master glaziers. It’s Vistosi ‘s creations glass.
In five centuries of Vistosi’ s tradition, this glass trademark has risen to success, managing to distinguish itself even during the worst crisis of the Murano’s glass production.
In the XVIIth century the Venetian Zuanne Geronimo Guazzabin, known as ‘Vistoso’, became owner of a furnace in Murano: from then onwards his family became part of the glass art élite of Venice, protagonist of the history of this precious manufacture.
The Vistosi’ s family business is strongly tied up with the fortune of the Venetian glass production all over the world: together they’ve been through Europe and crossed the oceans, looking for approvals and new challenges. In the middle of the XXth century, Guglielmo and Luciano Vistosi revived the style and skill that had secured the family’s position in the history of the Venetian Lagoon, thanks to new creations belonging to a “timeless beauty”, characterized by the extreme elegance of their shapes: the art of glass abandoned the tradition and entered the world of contemporary art.
The synergy between glass and design, combination of material and ideas, art and technique, shape and life-impulse, has determined the marriage between the Vistosi’ s name and the most important international designers such as Aulenti, Dal Lago, De Lucchi, Dordoni, Leclerc, Magistretti, Mangiarotti, Meda, Peduzzi Riva, Santachiara, Sottsass, etc… In this mutual exchange of inspiration, the eclectic creativeness of these designers had to yield to the glass exigencies and the handmade glass production had to furrow the new field of material research.
Vistosi was a precursor of the new age, believing in a future where glass would become ideal material to express creativeness and light diffusion. This new philosophy, successful in the 50’s, has come up again nowadays to search for new manufacturing techniques and for a design able to exalt purity and uniqueness.
Revived by the design, the technique and the wise manufacture of materials are still the starting point for every creation. In the Vistosi’s furnaces, expert chemists search for variants to the sand and mineral compositions, which have been jealously handed down for centuries in the Lagoon, obtaining new alchemies, increasing the transparency, the malleability and the clearness of glass and creating new colours, decorations and highlights; design engineers project and build ovens and melting techniques to cook more and more sophisticated mixtures, in order to offer to the glass-master the finest material for a perfect result.
Today the Vistosi’s mission is still to create “time-less” objects like Giogali, Neverrino, Munega, Lepanto, designed in the ‘60s and ‘70s but still trendy and successful up to now.
In the Vistosi’s name you can find ancient manufacture techniques of handmade blown-glass combined to experimental design and material research. That’s “i cristalli" , "le aquamarine", "gli ambrati" and “i neri”, different ways to dress glass, through new collections.
The present is an endless effort to improve materials and techniques, looking for unexpected harmonies between glass and its shapes: the design exalts the glass nobility; the material is elaborated to offer its best result, in the awareness that beauty of the finest glass grows stronger from details value.
